		<description><![CDATA[Great story. I think it&#039;s good to get a challenge and to try to meet it. But I also think organizations can facilitate networking much more than we tend to do. At universities, faculties tend to be silos, but it doesn&#039;t take much to create contacts across those boundaries when there&#039;s a little help. I hosted a &quot;write in&quot; week for about 40 women on my campus, as part of a project to get more women ready for promotion to full professor. One of the most frequent comments at the end of the week was the value of meeting women from other faculties. I started being more circumspect, especially with the social work department since they actually know how to get someone committed :-) 

No one could understand why I would WANT to be an administrator. You are right. We need more people in administration who want to be there and have a desire to make things better.]]></description>

MOOCs more or less got started a few years back, with David Wiley&#039;s work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_A._Wiley), some of the open courses offered by Alec Couros (http://educationaltechnology.ca/couros/) and others. The term was formalized in 2008 when Stephen Downes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Downes) and George Siemens (http://www.elearnspace.org/Articles/connectivism.htm) offered an open online course on George&#039;s theory of connectivism that drew hundreds of students. dubbed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), this course has been the model for a continuing series and has been taken up by other educators and leaders, especially within the educational technologies community. I got involved through my partner, Dave Cormier, who has facilitated a number of them with Stephen and George. in 2010, George, Dave, and my one of my faculty advisors and I conducted a research study on the phenomenon: our final paper is here. http://davecormier.com/edblog/wp-content/uploads/MOOC_Final.pdf
